This guide was prepared by Donald Insall Associates, Chartered Architects and Historic Building Consultants, on behalf of Cheshire West and Chester Council. It is a parallel document to the Northwich Management and Maintenance Guide for Historic Buildings.
The guidance is aimed for use by shop owners and long term tenants who are considering changes to their property. It highlights the acceptable and non-acceptable solutions to shop fronts with the intention of improving the design and appearance of individual shops which, in their turn, will improve the design and appearance of the town as a whole and increase the attractiveness of Northwich as a destination for a positive retail experience.
The Guide is one of five detailed design guidance documents referred to in the Cheshire West and Chester Local Plan (Part Two) Land Allocations and Detailed Policies – Preferred Approach.
The other four documents are:
- Northwich Management and Maintenance Guide for Historic Buildings, November 2014 (PDF, 3.4MB)
- Northwich Urban Design Guide and Public Realm Strategy, November 2010
- Northwich Conservation Area Appraisal, updated 2015 (Draft)
- Northwich Conservation Area Management Plan 2015 (Draft)
